Grab-A-Cane is a patented invention by me, Donald Beyette. I was born with Holt Oram syndrome in 1949. My mother and father raised me as a normal child, not a handicapped child, because of that I became a working member of society.
In 2001, while working at my automotive repair shop, I was crushed between the front end of a pickup truck and a concrete wall. One of my employees was in the parking lot, and his foot slipped off the brake and full throttled it into the shop where I was working.
On the way to the hospital I was thinking, I was born with the right side deformed and now we crushed up the left side. Why couldn't we have just crushed up the right side a little more.
The doctors replaced my left kneecap tendon (ACL), reattached the upper left leg muscle, repair the hernias and waited for the internal bleeding to stop. On May 31st 2007 at St. Mary's hospital in Saginaw, MI. Dr. Schell used cutting-edge technology to fuse my back from the tailbone to the L5 vertebrae. He repaired my back without using any screws rods or pins.
During the 9 year rehabilitation process, necessity was in fact the mother of invention! I created the cane grabber to reduce the number of tools I had to use and carry around with me. I designed the product so that it would actually work for me when I needed it, unlike some other grabbers on the market.
Grab-A-Cane is the only grabber and cane in one on the market. Its handy lightweight aluminum and stainless steel unit is adjustable and customizable. The grabber handle is in easy reach of your fingertips while still maintaining a firm grip on the cane. The rubber coated aluminum finger will easily pick up your car keys, pill bottle, and even a dime! The cane can be customized to be used by the right or left hand without impeding the walk way. If you or someone you know could benefit from this tool, please consider buying one today! I'd be happy to answer any questions about the product!
I'd also like to say that last week I passed my drivers test for motorcycle endorsement. This was the hardest hurdle I have ever endeavored to succeed at and am glad to add it to my accomplishments alongside the development of the Grab-A-Cane!
Thank you!
